Best Eyelash Glue: Clear or Dark?
Helping your client decide on the perfect set of eyelashes can be tricky. Synthetic, silk, or mink? J-curl, D-curl, or somewhere in between? Natural or glam? But once you’ve settled on a lash style, the decisions aren’t over. For newer lash technicians, it’s actually the decision about eyelash glue that can really throw us for a loop.
Types of Lash Glue
Eyelash glue comes in two types, each designed for a different type of lash application. Read below to determine the best one for your client’s lashes:
- Semi-Permanent Adhesives: This type of glue is usually reserved for individual lash application. It adheres a single lash to the real lash line, and should never have contact with the skin. This type of glue can last for about 3-4 Weeks when applied correctly. Our best seller is the Flexbond Xhot glue that dries flexible for a lightweight and strong bond.
- Latex-Based Adhesives: Latex adhesives are designed for strip lashes, and can be the best option for your clients to use at home. They are meant to be placed right above the lash line, rather than directly on the lashes. This type of glue lasts just one day. While it can be used for single lashes (not recomended), it’s most ideal for a strip of lashes.
So, choosing the best eyelash glue type is pretty clear cut. Just make sure you read the instructions on the glue and you’ll be ready to roll when applying either lash extensions or strip lashes.
But what about the color? Both semi-permanent and latex-based adhesives come in black and clear, so you may be debating about the best eyelash glue color for your client.
Eyelash Glue Color
Black and clear eyelash glue can both be good options, depending on the situation. In reality, 99% of all lashes applied are black so the black glues are all we carry now. But if your new to lashing, here’s when to use each type of color:
- Black Eyelash Glue: Does your client plan on wearing black lashes and/or black eyeliner? If so, black glue is probably your best bet. Black glue will easily blend in with the rest of the eye makeup and give a seamless, professional-looking finish. But if they’re using light brown or any other color of lash or liner, black glue may stand out too much.
- Clear Eyelash Glue: Choose clear eyelash glue when you’re working with eyelashes that is any color other than black. If the clear glue dries shiny, the client can make it appear more matte by going over it with eyeliner or eye shadow. Most clear glues contain latex so iLashtore has now discontinued them.
